See 3 month old Death Row puppy Starburst at the beach for the very first time!
Life was not going well for 3 month old puppy Starburst a week ago. He was found abandoned in a North Jersey apartment when his owners were evicted. He was brought to an overflowing ACO lot but narrowly escaped euthanasia when Second Chance and Rescue Ridge joined forces to rescue him and save his life.
I offered to transport Starburst to his foster home in Monmouth County but decided to take him for a day at the beach to help him decompress from the trauma of being abandoned at the shelter. He loved the camera so I turned it into a mini session. His sheer resilience, gratitude and joy touched my heart.
Starburst is available for adoption through RescueRidge.com! However, in New Jersey 35,000 healthy adoptable dogs and puppies are put to sleep annually due to excessive breeding and overpopulation. A Tribute To Rock
It took two really special people to save Rock's life when he was dumped at age ten, HW+ at a southern high kill shelter. Jen at Home Free Animal Rescue who brought him to New Jersey and my friend David who adopted him despite his senior status.
Rock got to enjoy nearly 2 years with David and his three legged canine brother Lucky. I met up with them for a short mini session this fall and Rock was a complete sweetheart to work with. He LOVED the food I brought and lit up the camera with a wisdom and sweetness beyond his 11 years.
I was really sad to hear that Rock crossed over on February 12th 2014 but thanks to Jen and David, he lived his final years with dignity in a loving home. Companion animals being treated as disposable objects is a massive problem in the USA, where 10,000 dogs are prematurely killed in shelters every single day, but thanks to people like David who adopt senior pets - some do get to leave this earth having known true love and unconditional compassion.
